Rig Mirror V3 - How To / Why For What this add-on does Rig Mirror V3 helps game rigs behave better with Blender's mirror tools. Many game rigs look mirrored, but their bone axes, rolls, tails, or names are not set up the way Blender expects. That can make pose mirroring, X-Axis Mirror, or other mirrored editing behave wrong even when the model itself looks fine. This add-on gives you preset fixes for Fortnite and Marvel Rivals rigs, plus a Manual section for other game rigs. Where to find it 1. Install and enable Rig Mirror V3 in Blender. 2. Open the 3D Viewport. 3. Press N to open the sidebar. 4. Open the Rig Mirror tab. 5. Select your armature/rig. Main sections Fortnite Use this section for Fortnite rigs that keep the standard Fortnite bone naming. Buttons: - Select Fortnite Bones Selects the known Fortnite bones the add-on is built to fix. - Fix Fortnite Mirror Fixes the supported Fortnite mirror bones on the selected rig. - Fix Fortnite Selected Only Only fixes the supported Fortnite bones you currently have selected. Use this when you want to test a small area before running the whole rig. Marvel Rivals Use this section for Marvel Rivals rigs that keep the standard Rivals bone naming. Buttons: - Select Rivals Bones Selects the known Marvel Rivals bones the add-on is built to fix. - Fix Rivals Mirror Fixes the supported Rivals mirror bones on the selected rig. - Fix Rivals Selected Only Only fixes the supported Rivals bones you currently have selected. Use this for smaller tests or partial fixes. Manual Manual is for rigs that are not Fortnite or Marvel Rivals, or rigs with unusual naming. Manual does not need matching names like _L/_R, .L/.R, Left/Right, etc. You can directly tell the add-on which bone is the source side and which bone is the target side. Manual can also auto-pair many common game-rig naming styles, including: - R_Arm -> L_Arm - Arm_R -> Arm_L - Arm.R -> Arm.L - Bip001 R Clavicle -> Bip001 L Clavicle - b085:R_Shoulder -> b012:L_Shoulder - Numeric/odd names when you select an obvious pair Manual also detects the mirror plane per pair. This matters for rigs that are sideways, Z-mirrored, or not laid out like a standard Blender/Fortnite X-mirror rig. Manual workflow - single pair 1. Select the rig/armature. 2. In the Manual section, click Add Manual Pair if no rows exist. 3. Put the good/source bone in the R / Source box. 4. Put the bone you want fixed in the L / Target box. 5. Click Fix Manual Mirror. 6. Check Blender's mirror behavior in Pose/Edit mode. The R box means source side. The L box means target side. The names do not have to literally be right and left. If your working source is technically on the left side, you can still place it in R / Source and the target in L / Target. Think of the boxes as Source -> Target. Manual workflow - Auto Add selected bones If the rig has readable side names: 1. Select the right/source bones you want to pair. 2. Click Add Selected. 3. The add-on tries to find the matching left/target bones automatically. 4. Review the rows. 5. Click Fix Manual Mirror. This works best when the rig has matching side markers somewhere in the names. Example: - Select: Bip001 R Clavicle - Auto Add finds: Bip001 L Clavicle Example with changing export IDs: - Select: b085:R_Shoulder - Auto Add finds: b012:L_Shoulder Manual workflow - two selected bones If the names are strange or numeric: 1. Select the two paired bones. 2. Click Add Selected. 3. The add-on tries to infer which side is source/target from their positions. 4. Review the row. 5. Click Fix Manual Mirror. Example: - b_033 as source - b_00E as target Small A buttons Each manual row has small A buttons beside the bone boxes. Use them like this: 1. Select or activate a bone in the viewport. 2. Click the A button beside the box you want to fill. 3. The selected/active bone name is placed into that box. This is useful when overlapping bones make the searchable bone boxes annoying to use. Delete Rows / Remove Last - Delete Rows clears all Manual rows. - Remove Last removes the last Manual row. - The small minus button on each row removes that specific row. Rename for Blender Mirror This option renames manual bone pairs into a Blender-friendly mirror naming style. Available styles: - .L / .R - _l / _r - _L / _R Why this matters: Blender's mirror tools often need mirror-friendly names. Sometimes the axes/roll are fixed correctly, but Blender still will not mirror because the bones are still named in a game-specific format. If the fix looks correct but Blender mirror still does not work, check whether Rename for Blender Mirror was enabled. Important warning: Rename changes bone names. That can be useful for Blender, but it can break game-rig naming expectations if you need to send the file back into another pipeline. Best practice: - Work on a duplicate save or duplicate rig before using Rename. - Keep an untouched original if the rig may need to go back into a game-specific workflow. Reset Rig Reset Rig restores the last live backup made by the add-on on the current armature. Use Reset when: - You tested a fix and want to undo it. - You want to compare before/after in the same open scene. - You fixed only selected bones and want to restore that last fixed set. Important limitations: - Reset is a live same-scene safety tool, not a permanent undo system. - It may not survive file reloads, crashes, or saving after fixes. - If you need a guaranteed untouched version, make a duplicate save or duplicate the model/rig first. Bottom Output box The Output box at the bottom reports what happened. It shows independent output for: - Fortnite - Rivals - Manual - Reset Manual output also reports the ready pair count and the mirror axes detected during the last manual fix. Example: Manual done: fixed 1, skipped 0, backup 2, roll fixes 1, axes Z:1, renamed 0. That means one target bone was fixed, one Z-plane mirror pair was detected, and no bones were renamed. Recommended testing flow For a new unknown rig: 1. Duplicate the file or duplicate the rig in-scene. 2. Select one obvious pair first. 3. Use Manual Add Selected or fill one row by hand. 4. Click Fix Manual Mirror. 5. Test Blender mirror behavior. 6. If axes look right but Blender mirror still fails, try Rename for Blender Mirror on a duplicate. 7. Once one pair works, try a larger selected group. 8. Only run broad fixes after small tests pass. If Auto Add fails Try manual rows first. If manual rows also fail, the rig may use a naming or axis style the add-on has not learned yet. Useful report info: - The source rip or .blend scene showing the issue. - The exact rig/model name. - The exact bone names used. - Which button was clicked. - What you expected to happen. - What actually happened. There are thousands of game rig formats, so full compatibility across every game cannot be guaranteed. The goal is to make Rig Mirror V3 robust across as many real rigs as possible, then improve it when a new edge case appears. Quick examples from testing Fortnite preset section passed on: - Mina Park - Spiderman No Way Home - Britestar Bomber - Groot, older Blender 3-era save opened in Blender 5.1+ Marvel Rivals preset section passed on: - Breezy Butterfly Psylocke - Disco of the Dead Hela - Frozen Demon Magik Manual / broader game-rig testing passed on: - Devil May Cry 5 Dante, including coat bones - Marvel Future Fight Daredevil 03 - Ghost of Yotei Atsu (Lone Wolf), including sideways/Z-mirror behavior - Overwatch 2 Tracer, XPS version - Overwatch 2 Vendetta - Call of Duty Lucy - Raid Shadow Legends Edward, XPS version Porting tools referenced during testing Rivals Porting: https://github.com/Bmarquez1997/RivalsPorting Fortnite Porting: https://github.com/h4lfheart/FortnitePorting Manual Mode - odd game bone names / hidden spaces Some game rigs include invisible trailing spaces in bone names, for example `leg left thigh ` or `leg left knee `. Rig Mirror V3 now keeps and resolves the exact Blender bone name internally, so Add Selected, Fix Manual Mirror, and Rename for Blender Mirror can still work even when one side has a hidden space and the other side does not. If Auto Add misses a pair, select the exact right and left bones together and press Add Selected. If both Auto Add and Manual Mode still fail, send the source rip or blend scene with the error so it can be checked against that game's naming style.
